I’ve said this before about this author, and it’s true for this one- It carries a lot of the elements I love about classic sci-fi literature. It’s a fun story that has some really interesting moral hooks to it, but without being pushy at all. What happens when good people have nothing but bad choices in a life-or-death situation. It was refreshing to see that the good guys couldn’t do the standard Hollywood trick where you get everything with impossible choices. It also touches on what it means when the bad choices are over and how they might live with them.Product details

Very grim. Kept me interested till the end, built up a sense of mystery about the ancient tech base of the geno supermen.
This is a great short story set far into the future after a collapse of civilization due to a war against genetically engineered Uber-people. Told from the perspective of a teen archaeologist/anthropologist who has to deal with far more then he expected on his first 'field trip'.
Society can climb very high, but then it can also fall so low. this story tells of just such where the technology of a space faring empire falls through arrogant rise of the overman to the lowest levels of savagery and mysticism while a team of researchers try to rebuild, study and reconnect the lost empire with lessons dearly learned.
Sometimes helping people creates friends and sometimes it doesn't. You can never tell how your best efforts to assist will turn out. As anyone who follows U.S. foriegn policy can see, you can not buy friends. I enjoyed this story because of the conflict that the main character goes through when friend changes and he has to choose between his friend and his race..
